Mandrake
Thraex
Razor Skin

A blast from the past: going extra-wide with Starhorn. Uses no cards above rare.

Concept

Starhorn is one of the most difficult generals to build on a budget, since his BBS is pretty bad in a vacuum, and all of the cards which synergize directly with his BBS come at higher rarities (including, most importantly, Decimus). However, there’s another approach to making Starhorn work for us: play a deck that’s fast enough to make good use of the card draw and not care about feeding your opponent cards as well. Often this translates to combo decks which seek to set up OTKs; here instead we have a deck that aims to dump a million cheap minions on the board and overwhelm the enemy.

Cards

Bodies

  • Rex
  • Celebrant
  • Golem Metallurgist
  • Young Silithar
  • Ragebinder

Cheap, sticky minions. Rex in particular is key early to steal mana tiles turn 1, and if you can drop multiples you might actually get one to survive long enough to hatch.

Removal

  • Bloodtear Alchemist
  • Maw

Minor damage effects with bodies attached. While you have no way to deal with big minions (instead you should simply ignore them and go wider), Maw is actually pretty good at sniping small backline threats since you can chain minions to get it within range.

Draw

  • BBS
  • Tectonic Spikes
  • Blaze Hound

Card advantage. Try to mulligan for a Spikes in your opening hand, since you’ll typically be pretty low on cards by turn 3 or 4.

Pump

  • Razor Skin
  • Shiro Puppydragon
  • Thraex

Razor Skin is actually quite strong here as a cheap, cantrippping global buff. Shiro and Thraex are slower but are fine minions themselves.

Finisher

  • Mandrake

Your main plan for the latter game is dropping multiples of these to force through the last points of damage.

Gameplay

Just dump all your cards onto the board and SMOrc the opponent down. Unless your opponent has multiple pieces of AOE, they will get rushed down surprisingly fast.

Upgrades

Sidegrades: You could try out Elucidators as source of finishing burst.

If you like this playstyle, Egg Ragnora is a more competitive archetype in this faction that also has a swarmy gameplan. It doesn’t have too many cards in common with this build since it is focused on spamming Rippers, which are the best cheap Magmar minion. Upgrades specific to this deck: Kujata to swarm faster, Progenitor to double up your minions, and Reliquarian as a finisher in combination with Mandrake.

A Hatefurnace deck that can complete the trial rather quickly and pretty consistently. Can very easily be a budget deck by swapping Vindicator for Thraex.
